Hossein Erami Qom silk, “Simrokh – Cinnamon Cream”, 391 x 298.5 cm
A hand-knotted silk rug from the Hossein Erami workshop in Qom: 391 x 298.5 cm, 11.67 square metres, 71.5 Raj, and 12,505,000 knots in 100% silk.
The colourway
“Cinnamon Cream” describes a warm, low-contrast palette rather than a bright one. That is a deliberate and difficult choice: when the colours sit close together, the drawing has to be carried almost entirely by tonal shading rather than by hard outlines, which is only possible at a fine Raj. At 71.5 the knots are small enough to graduate one shade into the next without the transition breaking into steps.
Silk on silk
Silk reflects light directionally, so a warm neutral field of this kind is never static. Seen from one side it reads cream; from the other, noticeably deeper. In a room with changing daylight the rug moves through its own range over the course of a day.
Placement and care
At close to twelve square metres this is a principal-room rug. Keep it out of direct, sustained sun, use a suction-only vacuum, and rotate it regularly so the pile and the colour age evenly.
