Overview
Origin Iran, format 219 × 323 cm — a Nain made entirely by hand. That is roughly 7.07 m² of floor, about 7.2' × 10.6'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% cotton foundation. Construction method: hand-knotted.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. A format for large rooms, with space for an entire seating arrangement.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as black and grey. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
