The piece in short
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Isfahan of 172 × 248 cm. The covered area is about 4.27 m² (5.6' × 8.1'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.
Construction
Pile material is given as 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, warp as 100% silk. It is entirely hand-knotted.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
