Origin Iran, format 90 × 60 cm — a Nain made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 0.54 m² (3' × 2'). Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.

The pile is wool, silk, on a warp of cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as approx. 2 kg.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.

On the knot count

The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

Colour and appearance

Colour is recorded as red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
