A white and beige Kashmir rug from India, hand-knotted, 313 × 221 cm. Kashmir looms work in the Persian idiom but in northern India, generally in silk or a silk-like fibre. The stated density is 500,000-599,999 knots/sqm; over 6.92 m² that is roughly 3.8 million knots, a solid workshop density. Pile 100% silk, warp 100% cotton. A silk pile shifts tone as you move past it — the same field reads light from one side of the room and dark from the other. The cotton foundation holds it flat and dimensionally stable. With 6.92 m² it covers the seating area without running to the walls. Proportion 1.42:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
