A white and beige Kashmir rug from India, hand-knotted, 153 × 93 cm. Kashmir looms work in the Persian idiom but in northern India, generally in silk or a silk-like fibre. The stated density is 500,000-599,999 knots/sqm; over 1.42 m² that is roughly 783,000 knots, a solid workshop density. Pile 100% silk & warp 100% cotton. Silk both in the pile and through the foundation, so the whole rug catches light rather than only the pattern. The cotton foundation holds it flat and dimensionally stable. Small enough (153 × 93 cm) that the weave can be read from close up. Proportion 1.65:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
