The piece in short
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Nain of 168 × 238 cm. The covered area is about 4 m² (5.5' × 7.8'). Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
What it is made of
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 5-7mm.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
