The piece in short
Origin India, format 253 × 304 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 7.69 m² (8.3' × 10'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
What it is made of
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. Construction method: hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 5-7mm.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
