Overview
Hand-knotted in India: a Tabriz of 247 × 350 cm. The covered area is about 8.65 m² (8.1' × 11.5'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Construction
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Period
Stated condition: new.
