The piece in short
A Tabriz from India, measuring 194 × 245 cm. The covered area is about 4.75 m² (6.4' × 8'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
How it reads
It is catalogued under Weiß / beige. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
