The piece in short
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Tabriz of 161 × 211 cm. That is roughly 3.4 m² of floor, about 5.3' × 6.9'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
What it is made of
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.
Format and use
A size where sofa and armchairs can rest their front legs on the rug.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 700,000–799,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
It is catalogued under multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
