The piece in short
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Nain of 156 × 231 cm. The covered area is about 3.6 m² (5.1' × 7.6'). Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
What it is made of
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 5-7mm.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as blue / Türkis. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
