The piece in short
A Kashan from Iran, measuring 370 × 243 cm. That is roughly 8.99 m² of floor, about 12.1' × 8'.
What it is made of
Construction: wool in the pile over a cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 24 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
Age
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
