The piece in short
Origin Iran, format 303 × 201 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 6.09 m² (9.9' × 6.6'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as approx. 8 mm. Weight is given as approx. 18 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. A size where sofa and armchairs can rest their front legs on the rug.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
On the colourway
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Age and condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
