Blue changes the rug, not just the colour

The same drawing on a blue ground is a different object in a room. Red grounds advance and warm a space; blue recedes and cools it, so the rose drawing reads as lighter and more separate from its field, and the whole piece sits back rather than coming forward. Workshops weave both editions for exactly that reason, and which one is right depends entirely on the room it is going into.

Fourteen million knots at 70 Raj

About 1.2 million knots per square metre. The rose is one of the hardest motifs in the Persian repertoire – layered petals, curled edges, form built out of shading rather than outline – and it is only possible at this density. On twelve square metres the drawing has room to develop across the field instead of repeating.

Placement and care

A large reception room, with floor left clear around it. Avoid direct sustained sunlight, vacuum without a beater bar, rotate once or twice a year, professional cleaning only.
