A million knots in a metre and a half

The figure is worth holding onto: over a million hand-tied knots in a piece you could carry under one arm. That is what 70 Raj means in practice, and it is why fine Qom silk is priced by the knot rather than by the square metre.

Mosaic Golfarang

The Golfarang rose repertoire set into a compartmented, mosaic ground rather than a continuous field – a device borrowed from Persian tilework. Each compartment carries its own fragment of the drawing, so the rug rewards being looked at closely rather than taken in at a glance. At this size that is exactly how it will be seen.
