Mosaic Golfarang

The Golfarang roses here are set into a mosaic ground: the field broken into small compartments, each carrying its own fragment of the floral drawing. It is a compositional device borrowed from tilework, and it changes how the rug is read – instead of one continuous field, the eye moves compartment by compartment.

Small format, full fineness

Nothing has been simplified for the size. At 70 Raj a piece of one square metre still carries three quarters of a million knots. Small silk rugs of this quality are often treated as wall pieces rather than floor pieces, which is a reasonable choice – it removes wear from the question entirely.
