The garden layout

A flower-garden field is one of the oldest ideas in Persian weaving: the rug as a walled garden seen from above, divided into beds, each bed with its own planting. It predates the medallion layouts and it is the reason so many Persian carpets read as a plan rather than a picture. Golfarang supplies the flowers – the naturalistic, rose-centred repertoire rather than the stylised palmette.

Square format

Ten centimetres separate the sides. A garden field suits a square better than a long rectangle, because the beds can be laid out symmetrically on both axes instead of being stretched down one.

Placement and care

Just over four square metres, square: a centred seating group or a square hall. Keep it out of direct sustained sun, vacuum with suction only, and rotate it occasionally.
