The piece in short
Hand-knotted in Iran: a Isfahan of 80 × 130 cm. It covers approximately 1.04 m², or 2.6' × 4.3'. Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% silk foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. A small format, at home in a hallway, beside a bed, or in front of a bench.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
It is catalogued under red and orange. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
