Overview
A Isfahan from Iran, measuring 108 × 170 cm. The covered area is about 1.84 m² (3.5' × 5.6'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% silk foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. This size typically covers the floor in front of a seating group.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
