Overview
Origin Iran, format 137 × 208 cm — a Isfahan made entirely by hand. That is roughly 2.85 m² of floor, about 4.5' × 6.8'. Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.
Materials and construction
Pile material is given as 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, warp as 100% silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. This size typically covers the floor in front of a seating group.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
