Overview

Origin Iran, format 85 × 135 cm — a Isfahan made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 1.15 m² (2.8' × 4.4'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.

Materials and construction

The pile is 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, on a warp of 100% silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.

Where it fits

The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
