The piece in short
A Kashan from Iran, measuring 100 × 100 cm. The covered area is about 1 m² (3.3' × 3.3').
Construction
Construction: wool, silk in the pile over a Kunstseide foundation. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as approx. 4 kg.
Format and use
The rug is round. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Condition
Stated age: antique. In a rug of this age, patina and some pile loss belong to the picture.
