A hand-knotted Kashmir rug from India, 250 × 170 cm. The Kashmir tradition took Persian drawing north into India and kept the floral density. Pile 100% silk, warp 100% cotton. Silk both in the pile and through the foundation, so the whole rug catches light rather than only the pattern. The cotton foundation holds it flat and dimensionally stable. At 250 × 170 cm it works as a defined island rather than wall-to-wall cover. Proportion 1.47:1. One of a kind: hand-knotted rugs are not made in editions, so this exact piece exists once.
