A white and beige Kashmir rug from India, hand-knotted, 253 × 187 cm. Kashmir looms work in the Persian idiom but in northern India, generally in silk or a silk-like fibre. The stated density is 500,000-599,999 knots/sqm; over 4.73 m² that is roughly 2.6 million knots, a solid workshop density. Pile 100% silk, warp 100% cotton. Silk both in the pile and through the foundation, so the whole rug catches light rather than only the pattern. The cotton foundation holds it flat and dimensionally stable. 4.73 m² suits a study or a foot-of-bed position. Proportion 1.35:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
