A hand-knotted Kashmir rug from India, 296 × 215 cm. Kashmir looms work in the Persian idiom but in northern India, generally in silk or a silk-like fibre. The stated density is 500,000-599,999 knots/sqm; over 6.36 m² that is roughly 3.5 million knots, a solid workshop density. Pile 100% silk &, warp 100% cotton. Silk both in the pile and through the foundation, so the whole rug catches light rather than only the pattern. The cotton foundation holds it flat and dimensionally stable. With 6.36 m² it covers the seating area without running to the walls. Proportion 1.38:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
