A white and beige Kashmir rug from India, hand-knotted, 308 × 94 cm. Kashmir looms work in the Persian idiom but in northern India, generally in silk or a silk-like fibre. Around 1.6 million knots went into this piece (500,000-599,999 knots/sqm) — a knot count in the range that balances detail against durability. Pile 100% silk &, warp 100% cotton. A silk pile shifts tone as you move past it — the same field reads light from one side of the room and dark from the other.
