A hand-knotted Kashmir rug from India, 334 × 242 cm. Indian rather than Persian in origin, Kashmir weaving follows Persian layout closely. The stated density is 500,000-599,999 knots/sqm; over 8.08 m² that is roughly 4.4 million knots, a solid workshop density. Pile 100% silk, warp 100% cotton. Silk carries dye deeper than wool: the colours sit darker in shadow and brighter into the light. The cotton foundation holds it flat and dimensionally stable. With 8.08 m² it covers the seating area without running to the walls. Proportion 1.38:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
