Hand-knotted Kashmir Oriental Rug in Silk, 363 × 277 cm

A white and beige Kashmir rug from India, hand-knotted, 363 × 277 cm. Kashmir looms work in the Persian idiom but in northern India, generally in silk or a silk-like fibre. The stated density is 500,000-599,999 knots/sqm; over 10.06 m² that is roughly 5.5 million knots, a solid workshop density. 100% silk & 100% cotton. Silk both in the pile and through the foundation, so the whole rug catches light rather than only the pattern. The cotton foundation holds it flat and dimensionally stable. With 10.06 m² it covers the seating area without running to the walls. Proportion 1.31:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
