The piece in short
A Nain from Iran, measuring 326 × 210 cm. That is roughly 6.85 m² of floor, about 10.7' × 6.9'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Construction
The pile is wool, on a warp of cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as approx. 18 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under Weiß / beige. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Age and condition
Stated age: antique. As an antique piece, condition should be judged against its age.
