Sini

Sini means tray. The name describes the layout: a single round medallion filling the field the way a tray sits on a table, rather than the elongated corner-and-medallion arrangement used on larger rugs. It is a composition that only works at small scale, where the whole design can be taken in at a glance.

Silk on silk

Both the pile and the foundation are silk. A silk warp is thinner and stronger than cotton, which is what allows the knot count to go this high without the rug becoming thick, and it makes the finished piece noticeably lighter and more flexible than a wool-on-cotton rug of the same size.

Placement and care

At this size it works as a hall or bedside piece, or hung. Small silk rugs are often wall-mounted, which also removes any question of wear. Keep it out of direct sun and vacuum with suction only.
