Overview
A Nain from Iran, measuring 203 × 307 cm. The covered area is about 6.23 m² (6.7' × 10.1'). Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Construction
The pile is 100% new wool, on a warp of 100% cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
Colour is recorded as black and grey. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
