The piece in short
A Nain from Iran, measuring 298 × 390 cm. The covered area is about 11.62 m² (9.8' × 12.8'). Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.
Construction
Pile material is given as 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, warp as 100% cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under Weiß / beige. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
