Hand-knotted: a Qom rug measuring 123 × 79 cm. The Qom idiom is dense floral or panelled work with very little open ground. The stated density is 500,000-599,999 knots/sqm; over 0.97 m² that is roughly 534,000 knots, a solid workshop density. 100% silk & 100% cotton. Silk both in the pile and through the foundation, so the whole rug catches light rather than only the pattern. The cotton foundation holds it flat and dimensionally stable. Small enough (123 × 79 cm) that the weave can be read from close up. Proportion 1.56:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
