Hand-knotted Qom Oriental Rug in Silk, 157 × 95 cm

A blue and turquoise Qom rug, hand-knotted, 157 × 95 cm. The Qom idiom is dense floral or panelled work with very little open ground. The stated density is 800,000-899,999 knots/sqm; over 1.49 m² that is roughly 1.3 million knots, a fine weave that keeps small motifs legible. Pile 100% silk;, warp 100% silk. Silk both in the pile and through the foundation, so the whole rug catches light rather than only the pattern. Small enough (157 × 95 cm) to place where the weave can be seen from close up. Proportion 1.65:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
