Overview
Origin Iran, format 84 × 123 cm — a Qom made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 1.03 m² (2.8' × 4'). Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% silk in the pile over a 100% silk foundation. It is entirely hand-knotted.
Format and use
Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
