Hand-knotted Qom Persian Rug in Silk, 318 × 212 cm

Hand-knotted from Iran: a Qom rug measuring 318 × 212 cm. Qom looms turn out silk, wool and cork-wool pieces alike — what they share is the density of the drawing, not the fibre. The stated density is 700,000-799,999 knots/sqm; over 6.74 m² that is roughly 5.1 million knots, a fine weave that keeps small motifs legible. Pile 100% silk, warp 100% silk. Silk both in the pile and through the foundation, so the whole rug catches light rather than only the pattern. With 6.74 m² it covers the seating area without running to the walls. Proportion 1.5:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
