Overview
A Qom from Iran, measuring 83 × 121 cm. It covers approximately 1 m², or 2.7' × 4'. Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.
Materials and construction
The pile is 100% silk, on a warp of 100% silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Where it fits
At this size it works as an entryway mat or a bedside rug.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
