The piece in short
A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 102 × 155 cm. It covers approximately 1.58 m², or 3.3' × 5.1'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
What it is made of
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% silk foundation. Construction method: hand-knotted.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as Weiß / beige. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
