The piece in short
Origin Iran, format 145 × 210 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 3.05 m² (4.8' × 6.9'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
What it is made of
The pile is 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, on a warp of 100% silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Format and use
At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
Colour is recorded as multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
