The piece in short
Origin Iran, format 157 × 108 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 1.7 m² of floor, about 5.2' × 3.5'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
What it is made of
Construction: wool in the pile over a cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 6 kg.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.
On the colourway
It is catalogued under blue / Türkis. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Age and condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
