The piece in short
This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 158 × 228 cm. That is roughly 3.6 m² of floor, about 5.2' × 7.5'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
The pile is 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, on a warp of 100% cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. A size where sofa and armchairs can rest their front legs on the rug.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
On the colourway
It is catalogued under multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
