About this rug
A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 253 × 348 cm. That is roughly 8.8 m² of floor, about 8.3' × 11.4'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Format and use
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². A knot count at this level belongs to the upper quality class of handmade rugs.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
