Overview
Origin Iran, format 290 × 196 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 5.68 m² of floor, about 9.5' × 6.4'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
The pile is Handgesponnene Wolle, on a warp of cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 18 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under blue / Türkis. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Age and condition
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
