About this rug
A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 65 × 100 cm. The covered area is about 0.65 m² (2.1' × 3.3'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Construction
Pile material is given as 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, warp as 100% cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
It is catalogued under multicolour. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
