The piece in short
This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 150 × 210 cm. It covers approximately 3.15 m², or 4.9' × 6.9'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Construction
Pile material is given as 100% Schurwolle mit Seide, warp as 100% cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.
Knot density and quality
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
Colour and appearance
It is catalogued under red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
