The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 230 × 154 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 3.54 m² (7.5' × 5.1'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

The pile is wool, on a warp of cotton. It is entirely hand-knotted. Weight is given as ap.6kg.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.

On the colourway

It is catalogued under Weiß / beige. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
