At a glance
A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 253 × 300 cm. That is roughly 7.59 m² of floor, about 8.3' × 9.8'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Construction
Construction: 100% Schurwolle mit Seide in the pile over a 100% cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.
How it reads
It is catalogued under red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
