About this rug
A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 335 × 245 cm. The covered area is about 8.21 m² (11' × 8'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
What it is made of
Construction: wool in the pile over a cotton foundation. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 30 kg.
Where it fits
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
Fineness of the knotting
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
On the colourway
The stated colourway is Braun / Gelb. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
Age
Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
