At a glance
Origin Iran, format 347 × 242 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 8.4 m² of floor, about 11.4' × 7.9'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.
Materials and construction
Pile material is given as wool, warp as cotton. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Weight is given as ap. 30 kg.
Size and placement
The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.
On the knot count
The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.
Colour and appearance
Colour is recorded as red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
Age
Stated condition: Neu.
